Measurement
Ask for the area, perimeter, volume/capacity, or a unit conversion of a simple rectangular or prism shape, framed with everyday context (a garden bed, a water tank).
Perimeter, area and volume are different questions
Perimeter asks "how far around?" — add up the side lengths, all in the same unit. Area asks "how much surface?" — for a rectangle, multiply length by width, and the answer is in squared units (cm², m²). Volume asks "how much space inside?" — for a rectangular prism, multiply length × width × height, and the answer is in cubed units (cm³, m³).
Worked example: A rectangle is 8 cm long and 5 cm wide. Perimeter = 2 × (8 + 5) = 26 cm. Area = 8 × 5 = 40 cm².
Converting between units
Everything at this level is built on a small set of conversions worth memorising: 1 m = 100 cm, 1 km = 1000 m, 1 L = 1000 mL, 1 kg = 1000 g. Always convert to the SAME unit before you add, subtract or compare two measurements.
How to attack this question type

Underline the unit in the question before you start — a mismatched unit (mixing cm and m) is the most common way marks are lost in measurement questions.

Area is always in squared units and volume always in cubed units. If your final answer for an area question doesn’t have a "²", check your working.

Draw a quick, rough sketch and label the sides — it takes ten seconds and prevents mixing up length and width.

When converting between units, ask "am I going from a bigger unit to a smaller one, or smaller to bigger?" Bigger to smaller means multiply; smaller to bigger means divide.

For volume in litres from cm³, remember 1 L = 1000 cm³ exactly — it is the one conversion this test loves to test.
